Vampires have legends too. The story goes that Caine was the first vampire. Yes, the one from the Bible; don't ask me why we spell it with an E. He sired the second generation, and they did the third, and so on.

At least that's how it goes in areas where Abrahamic religions have been majority. Don't ask me if it's the same in other places. I'm not a Noddist, I haven't looked into it much.

That's terribly amusing. I have an interest in lore regarding Cain, considering I am him.

In the sense that it's impossible to permanently kill me, yes. In terms of sucking blood, no. There was enough of that shit with Kresnik before and during the Lockdown.

Okay, I don't know who Kresnik is or what the Lockdown was, but being impossible to kill definitely doesn't make you a vampire. Mostly because I know for a fact vampires aren't; I've lost too many friends to think otherwise.

Well. Difficult for most mortals to kill. Kresnik was - well. He was a vampire hunter, but also a vampire I think? I'm not entirely sure what his deal was. He and Kudlak come as a pair though, and Kudlak was going around draining people and causing havoc. It ended up getting people involved with my plans which was a pain.

The Lockdown was a week where demons ran rampant in a section of Tokyo.

"Causing havoc" is generally a pain by definition. Especially for those of us whose job it is to make it stop.

[There's a pause here.] You know, I should probably be surprised Tokyo has problems like that, but I'm really not. It's even worse than New York for that stuff. I'm kind of surprised Hinoto-Ri didn't used to be part of Tokyo, honestly.

I was basically hired to cause havoc - I made the Demon Summoning Program.

Well in any given show or comic or whatever if Tokyo Tower doesn't blow up, you're doing it wrong in terms of destruction. Not that it blew up during the Lockdown. Wrong part of Tokyo.

Why would you even want a Demon Summoning Program? [And since this is all text he can blithely pretend not to be trying to figure out whether this is a program where you learn to summon demons or a computer program that does it for you.]

It's not always blowing it up. Sometimes it just collapses. [Maugris isn't a big monster movie guy, but he saw Mothra once.]

I was commissioned for it, actually, by a cult who worshiped a powerful demon. They wanted to help him win the Throne of Bel, which is basically the power that makes someone King of Demons. He didn't win in the end, incidentally.

Mm. Shame after all that work, but probably for the bests. Anybody with a cult is going to be a pain in the ass to deal with.

Usually, yes. They were helpful for setting up all the right variables for things, though.

Well, yeah. It's easy to manipulate people when they've got a really obvious lever like "fanatical demon worshiper". Or "obsessed with magical power", or something.

Indeed. It's a little amusing how simple it is, actually. Then again, I've had a long time to practice.

I assume that's not a compliment. It doesn't matter. One day you too might be old and cynical and tired of dealing with the same thing over and over.

Not really. Though the tricks are definitely helpful; I wouldn't have been able to do half the good I managed back home without being able to manipulate mortal society. I know it kind of makes me a hypocrite, and I can't say I like it, but I have to do what I can.

... This truth thing is a serious pain in the ass.

So, do you have a name besides "Cain"? I can only guess that would cause some comment, especially in Japan.

The name I was given when I was born this time was Naoya. It's as good as any other name for me.

"Born this time"? So, what, serial reincarnation? That's one way to end up immortal, I guess.

Yes. Every time I'm killed, I'm born into a new body with all of my previous memories.

Having the previous memories is kind of the important part for that, I guess. I never understood what the difference between being reborn or not is with the normal kind. Never really could wrap my head around Buddhism.

It's generally a matter of old souls with wiped or locked memories versus totally new souls.
